Introduction to Magic Grab

Magic Grab is one of Canva’s secret weapons that can transform any image into a masterpiece. If you’re new to Canva or haven’t used Magic Grab, this guide is for you. We’ll explore how to make the most of this fantastic tool along with other Canva Pro features.

Yes, Magic Grab is a pro feature, and trust me, going Pro is worth it! It offers features like the Magic Eraser, Background Remover, and more to make your design process smooth and efficient. You can try it free for 30 days.

Magic Grab allows you to effortlessly pick and manipulate parts of your images, making it both quick and fun to create stunning visuals. So, let’s jump in and see the magic unfold!

Step 1: Prepare Your Image

I often use Mid Journey to get some cool images, but you can use any you like. Here's our starting point—a random image with a little problem that we’re going to fix.

Now there isn't a lot wrong with the image except that I want to take out the BIRD on top of the dog's head. Usually with AI IMAGES, there are so many extra details or added images we don't need. This image also had a very light grey image in the right bottom corner so that had to go. So I go to another PRO feature Magic Eraser.

  1. Head to Magic Studio: Click on Magic Eraser.
  2. Adjust the Brush Size: Increase it a bit to make your work easier.
  3. Erase Unwanted Elements: Brush over the unwanted item. If something remains, just do it again until it’s clean.

Step 2: Using Magic Grab

Next, head back to the Magic Studio and click on Magic Grab. This tool used to only have a brush feature, but now we have an incredibly time-saving click option. Thank you Canva LOVE THE CLICK OPTION!!!

  1. Back to Magic Studio: Select Magic Grab.
  2. Grab Element: Select the click feature, which lets you easily grab elements from your image. You can either erase that element or move it somewhere else. Even if Magic Grab doesn’t get it all at once, don’t stress—just keep clicking until it’s perfect.
  3. Final Touches: Use the Background Remover to clean up the image further. But only if you don't want the background. Use Magic Eraser to take out any other areas you don't want.

Step 3: Customize Your Background

With your cleaned-up image, it’s time to pick a background that pops! That is if you want a new background. I wanted one because this image has a lot of WHITE and I want my image to POP!

  1. Choose Your Background Color: Click on the background color and use the eye dropper tool to select a color from your image. Let’s bring some color back! Canva lets you use image colors to keep things cohesive.
  2. Fine-tune the Color: If the color doesn’t look right, you can adjust it by selecting different areas of the image using the eye dropper.

Utilizing the Eyedropper Tool

Use the Eyedropper tool to pick the perfect shade from your image. This tool is super handy for ensuring your background matches your subject. For instance, I chose a light peach color from the flowers in the image to make everything pop.

Step 4: Add Inspirational Text

Want to jazz up your image even more? Let’s add a quote. You don't have to do this step but I love a good social media quote design.

  1. Search for Quotes: In the elements tab, search for “quotes” and choose the “inspirational” category.
  2. Select Graphics: Pick a graphic that you like—I'm going with “Focus on the good.”
  3. Customize the Colors: Use the eye dropper tool to match the text colors with your image. Adjust until it looks just right.

Final Adjustments

Position your text and image so they’re centered and balanced. Make sure everything looks good and matches the vibe you want to create. Use the position tool to center your quote perfectly. Canva’s alignment guides make this super easy.

Checking Overall Aesthetic. Look over your creation to make sure everything looks as you envisioned. Sometimes a small tweak can make a big difference! If a color doesn’t seem right, adjust it until you’re happy with the final look.

To summarize, I’ve taken an image, removed unwanted elements using the Magic Eraser, used Magic Grab to isolate and remove parts, cleaned up the background, added a motivational quote, and matched the colors. The result? An eye-catching, unique image.
